How is Chacha the Goat single-handedly changing the fortunes of an entire community?
Chacha the Goat is the start of an exciting community-led initiative that will help dramatically improve rural nutrition and incomes. With the potential to quadruple milk production in a single generation, a local goat-breeding programme crossing high-yielding British Toggenburg goats like Chacha, with the local African varieties is proving a huge success. Building on these experiences, other communities are keen to start up similar projects, working to help themselves out of poverty.
Buying a single Toggenburg goat like Chacha from Excellent Development benefits not just one family, but an entire community of up to 3,000 people by improving the quality of all its goats. Under this scheme a single male Toggenburg goat is donated to each local self-help group, who stud him out to the whole community for a small fee. This ensures the sustainability of the project by paying for the upkeep and management of the goat.
The high quality milk produced by these robust hybrids provides valuable protein in areas where child malnutrition is rife. Sales of the surplus milk also boosts domestic incomes, helping pay for vital medical care and child education, which would otherwise be out of reach to most of the community.
With our first 2 goats kindly donated by The Rotary Club of Guildford Chantries making such an impact, Excellent Development are keen to support these local projects by providing communities with 25 more goats like Chacha. You can help make this happen by buying your very own goat from Excellent Development through our dedicated “Just Giving” site.
Each pedigree Toggenburg goat costs just £100 and makes a big impact on to the lives of up to 3,000 people (just over 3p per person). Buying through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to help our cause: Excellent Development will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
