Following our success with an eye camp for refugees in May 2008 (photos are on our website) , we decided to help more extremely poor people. We have been doing eye operations in Bangladesh and Pakistan monhly, since that time. Photos are all on our website, http://www.mercymankind.org/ourwork.html click on MAY 2008 and on any month after that (you will see photos of eye ops from Bangladesh and/or Pakistan) , all done on a rolling basis
They were a combination of refugees, people who beg for a living or are too poor to afford treatment. We have seen people who cannot see and cannot seek treatment because they have no money. The operations will be mainly in Bangladesh as thats where we have the most staff at present.
Our target is to help people with eye cataract operations and/or medicines. Each eye operation for cataracts will cost roughly £40 in Bangladesh. They used to cost £30 but because the UK econmy is going down the pan, the exchange rate has become unfavourable and hence its now £40 :(
Anyway, work will be done on a rolling basis, as funds come in. We are not funded by any organisation and rely completely on your donations. All photos are presented online a month later
