Faith Imogen Hudson was born on September 5th 2009, at 11.58pm weighing 5lb 7oz. Faiths mummy and daddy had already been told about her devestating heart condition early on in the pregnancy, and were warned that when born, faith would be put onto a ventilator as her heart was crushing her lungs and she would be blue. Faith arrived by ceasarean section and already a stubborn little monkey (mummy had been in slow labour for a week!) she arrived lovely and pink and breathing for herself. Already she was defying the doctors. After numerous test it was decided that instead of waiting 3 weeks for life saving surgery, she would be transfered to Birmingham childrens hospital to be operated on immediatly. Faith was born without an aorta, she had a trunchal vein, ventricular septum defect, several small holes inn the bottom of her heart and a dyspastic tricuspid valve, a lot of medical jargon to take in, but in short Faith literally had a broken heart. Her surgeon, Dr Braun, took picture after picture of her heart and at around 4.20 pm on 8th september,at just 2 and half days old, he took Faith into surgery to mend her broken heart. Dr Braun Created an artificial aorta, closed the majority of the holes, closed the septum defect, fixed a leaky heart valve and corrected the trunchal vein, he performed a miracle!! Faith is currently in the intensive care unit at Birmingham childrens hospital where she is doing fantastically! she is getting stronger by the hour, and although she may need operations in the future, her proud parents have been told she will grow up to be a healthy little girl!! What Dr Braun did was nothing short of a miracle and the support and care the midwife team, doctors and nurses at Birmingham childrens hospital have given to Faith,Becky and John has been second to none! Im not alone when i say these people are definitly heroes and deserve all the praise they get, for without their help and expertise, Faiths journey could have had a very different ending!! Faith has since had another operation to replace the trunchal valve and repair several other problems little faiths heart had. Although she is still in intensive care, she is doing amazingly well and every hour goes by she gets stronger and stronger!!! Birmingham childrens hospital, in particular the amazing surgeons and the picu nurses have been fantastic!! They need and deserve your help so that other children in the future can receive the same level of care that faith has..
Thankyou in advance for any help you can give.
