My story
What am I doing?
Attempting to run 26 miles in Amsterdam in October 2013 (was Edinburgh, but a stubborn injury put a stop to that :o(
Why am I doing it?
After taking running more seriously this year, I realised that the marathon may just be achievable (no promises yet!) and would be a fantastic way of helping a charity which raises awareness about an illness which has deeply affected my family and will continue to affect thousands of others each year.
Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of all cancer deaths in the UK, and due to it's nature, it's probably one of the least talked about. I personally know three people who have faced the illness, two of them did not survive. Bowel Cancer UK works to raise crucial awareness of the disease, helping to eliminate the taboos, and helping to save people's lives by getting them to recognise the symptoms early enough.
Can I actually complete the marathon?!
Every penny (or euro!) you can give will spur me on, giving me the greatest chance of reaching the finish line, so please, give what ever you can. Thank you :o)
My updates 7
Gutted that I'm not able to run in the Edinburgh marathon today. But i managed 10K last week without any tendon issues so everything is going in the right direction again for Amsterdam in October :o)
train for the marathon in October. I certainly wont be giving up, and I will run the marathon, it's just a question of when unfortunately. Thank you so much to everyone for your support. I'm just sorry that I need more time to complete this.
I'm now up to running for 20 minutes without pain, but it's going to be a very slow rehab process, since pushing myself too far one time could bring the injury right back again. I am hoping that in the next 2 months I can get up to running 10K, and then will have 4 months to
for 3 months now, I've had dry needling, I've tried electromagnetic pulse therapy, I use a foam roller to roll out knots and tight muscles, and I perform strengthening/stretching exercises for at least an hour every day. I'm finally starting to see some improvement 3 months on.
But in February, I started getting some minor pain in my leg, so I took a few days off running, but the pain got worse. It got to the point where walking was painful, and sprinting to catch the train left me in agony for an hour or more afterwards. I've been having physio, TBC
