FIT is a bold new play about attempting to fit in and trying to stand out, in a culture where everything from not liking sport to wearing the wrong trainers is 'gay'. Using hip-hop dance, original music and sparky comedy, FIT is about a group of young friends trying to deal with issues of identity, relationships, bullying and sexual orientation.

FIT was originally commissioned in 2007 by Stonewall and queerupnorth International Festival to tackle the growing problem of homophobic bullying in Britain's schools. Due to popular demand it was re-commissioned by the Drill Hall and in total the play was performed in more than 75 schools and reached over 10,000 11-14 year-old students across the UK.

"I would ask the kids how many people thought homosexuality was wrong. In every single school the vast majority, about 80%, would put their hands up. But kids would come up after the performance and say quite openly 'I walked into this room homophobic and will leave it a changed person.'" Rikki Beadle Blair, FIT writer and director.

Appeal

This highly acclaimed production has had a huge impact on the young people who have seen it. As it isn’t possible to tour indefinitely, we want to produce FIT on DVD. The DVD will mean that FIT will live on as a proven tool to tackle homophobic bullying in every secondary school in the country. Stonewall needs to raise £150,000 to make this goal a reality.
