Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was at Everest Advance Base Camp on an attempt to summit the mountain when on 25 April 2015 the tragic earthquake struck Nepal and caused horrific damage to the country and the sad loss of many lives, homes and communities.
I would like to do whatever I can to contribute to the repair of this beautiful country and to help the wonderful people who over many years have become great friends. I have chosen to support Community Action Nepal for their outstanding work in the long term regeneration of the country. Please donate whatever you can.
Community Action Nepal (CAN) is a UK based charity whose aim is to help
the mountain people of Nepal. Founded by Doug Scott CBE, who in 1975
made the first British ascent of Everest, CAN is supported by
mountaineers and mountain-lovers from across the globe.
CAN's Kathmandu office and Nepali staff make our projects happen on the
ground.
Funds are raised from donations, fundraising events, sales of Nepali
goods, grants and Doug Scott's lecture tours.
CAN works in partnership with mountain villages and communities to
provide local health, education, income generation, cultural and
mountain porter welfare facilities.
CAN projects are grass roots driven - with ideas coming directly from
and supported by communities.
Since 1998 CAN has established more than 50 community projects bringing
benefits to 250,000 people. We currently operate nine Health Posts,
eight schools and three mountain porter rescue shelters.
100% of funds donated to CAN are used directly in Nepal - all charity administration and overhead costs are funded elsewhere.
