April 28th
Completed in 6h4m8s , and over £3k for charity = success. Thank you everyone.
I injured my left leg a few days before the run, but I was determined to raise the money for charity. I had a great day with lots of family and friends supporting me. I thought I would find running alone difficult, but I looked forward to friend and family spotting, and the London crowd are a great encouragement, lots of treats like jelly babies and opal fruits. There was a priest at mile 2 who sprayed us with Holy Water. I had my name on my tee shirt and so many strangers just called out 'Keep going Frances' which is a great motivator.
Thanks again for all your support to the Spinal Injuries Association
Hi
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. This year I was keen to do more running than I have during a decade of living in hot climates. To give myself an incentive to train in the cold wintry weather I entered the London Marathon, which this year is on Sunday 26th April.
I am raising money running for the Spinal Injures Association, which, among other activities, seeks to Rebuild Lives Through Sport providing funding for projects which encourage disabled people to get into sport at grass roots level
I have a great training partner in Stavanger and join a running group when I am in Aberdeen. My longest run in February was 16 miles, my 'cross training' sessions included both swimming and cross country skiing. Shorter sessions training in the snow and ice were challenging, rewarded by the stunning beauty of seeing sunrise across a lake in Stavanger.
For me its a privilege to be able to run, as those I am supporting have become paralysed. I know what its like to be injured - after 6 weeks training I suffered shin splints and my running came to an abrupt halt for 3 weeks. I am back in training now, recently 14 miles from Skene in Aberdeenshire to Aberdeen City. I am immensely thankful I could restart my efforts to help those less fortunate.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Spinal Injuries Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
