On Saturday 11th July 2009 Team Muscat will be taking to the high seas as part of the Eddystone Charity Sailing Pursuit and hoping to raise as much money as we can for the Charlie Sumption Memorial Fund.
The Race: Starting in Plymouth Sound, the course takes us 14 gruelling miles out to sea, round the Eddystone Lighthouse then back to Plymouth. All prize money goes to the nominated charities with prizes awarded down to 50th place. However, every £25 of sponsorship buys one point which, combined with the boat's sailed position, lifts it one place up the prize ladder. Therefore, the more sponsorship we raise, the greater our chance of winning a big cash prize for Charlie's Fund.
The Charlie Sumption Memorial Fund: Charlie, aged 14, died tragically of Sudden Death Syndrome on 18th April 2006. Charlie was a really fun character who had a twinkle in his eye. He was going to take on the world and make something of it. Never shy, his enthusiasm and his 'can do' attitude touched the lives of all he came into contact with.
The Charlie Sumption Memorial Fund was founded by Charlie's brothers Ed and Alexander and their friend Angus Radford. Through the Fund, Charlie lives on in name and spirit. The Fund offers four year secondary school scholarships to students from Mutunyi, Kenya and is kindly organised by Lewa.
