Hi and thanks for visting my Just Giving page for my fund raising challenge this year.

The Challenge

This autumn I will try to complete two marathons in two months for two special charities. I am competing in the New York Marathon on November 1st and the Beirut Marathon on Dec 6th. I am raising funds for The Royal British Legion and Viva Palestina. I appreciate any sponsorship you can give to help these very special causes.

Royal British Legion.

Im raising money for them as a tribute to my great grandfather. No one in our family knew anything about him until last summer when we were contacted by a distant relative tracing our family tree. As a result of that contact we found out that he was killed on October 4th 1918 somewhere near Vis-en-Artios in one of the final battles of World War 1. My dad and I visited the memorial at Vis-en-Artois last year on the 90th anniversary of his death. the Royal British Legion was formed in 1921 and now spends over £1m per week supporting veterans, armed forces dependents and those bereaved.

Viva Palestina

Were formed in early 2009 and they organise aid convoys to the trapped and destitute people of Gaza. So far two aid convoys have successfully got through to Gaza and another is planned for early December. Whatever the rights or wrongs of the political situation, the ordinary Palestinians live day to day in the most horrific state of mental and physical anguish. The Viva Palestina convoys take vital aid to make life as bearable as possible - shelter, food, medicine, clothes, childrens toys etc.

Unfortunately Viva Palestina are not yet registered with Just Giving and so my page is only set up for the Royal British Legion at the moment. I hope to add a page for VP next week and I will send an update. However as its only just over 1 week until the NY marathon please get donating as soon as you can. I will ensure that the total donated to the RBL will be matched somehow so that both charities will receive the same amount.

Cheers

Fraser

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
