My story
We’re a team of friends from Edinburgh who ran 5 marathons in 5 days from Brussels to Amsterdam, covering the 132 miles from the 5th-9th September 2011.
Our aim is to raise enough money (£4,200) to build a school kitchen through Mary’s Meals’ Sponsor a School scheme.
We are firm believers in the notion of sustainable giving - that those in need dont want to rely on handouts for the rest of their lives, but want the tools allow them to improve their lives on their own. A good education is surely the most fundamental of these tools, and is a core principal of the work Mary’s Meals does.
So often people are asked to donate money and while it is undoubtedly used for worthwhile causes, the individual rarely gets to see exactly where that money goes. Through this scheme, all those donating will know which school their money has gone to, and will be able to see photos of the kitchen once complete.

Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 600,000 children every school day and it costs just £10.70 / €12.40 / $16.80 to feed a child for a year.
