My name is Anna and on 1 March 2011 I opened a Just Giving page to try to raise money to fund my job. My original appeal is at the bottom of this page – just scroll down!
Thanks to the amazing kindness and generosity of many, many people we have managed , so far, to raise 34% of the money we need. This has earned my role a reprieve and, for the time being, I will be able to continue looking after children affected by domestic abuse.
This fundraising attempt seemed like a long shot but, thanks to people like you, there may be a light at the end of this particular tunnel.
We had intended to close this page at the end of March but have decided to keep it open and keep on raising awareness of domestic abuse and try to raise the rest of the money we need.
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has donated so far – your generosity and kindness is truly appreciated.

My name is Anna and I am currently the Children's Worker for RISE, the domestic abuse charity. Every day I look after children while their mothers have counselling, see solicitors,have group support and attend key work. If I am not there then many of these women will not be able to get the help they need. You really can't take your children into these appointments and situations, they will have been through and witnessed enough and it would not be good to have them hear anything about what their mother has experienced. My job has another aspect, 90% of children are in the same or next room when domestic violence occurs and it affects over 750,000 children a year, I am specially trained to spot the signs and impact of abuse and am here to provide an opportunity for children to explore their feelings on what they have seen in a safe and anxiety free environment.
Funding for my post comes to an end in March and though we have looked everywhere and asked every organsation and fund we can think of, still no luck so I have decided to see if anyone would like to help fund my job. I am not expensive £15 pays for 2 hours of my work. If everyone I knew gave £5 and everyone they asked did the same we would soon be able to get the money together to keep my post.
Please forward this to your friends and family and ask them to do the same - I know it is unorthodox and a bit off the wall but the need is urgent and I need to do everything in my power to keep this service going - please help.
If I don't reach the target then your donation will become a general donation to RISE to enable them to help local women, children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
