Our son ben has a condition called plagiocephaly-it is defined as an oblique deformity of the skull and gives a distorted look to the head shape and also causes misalignment of the ears and eyes and in severe cases contributes to jaw and dental problems and the negative psychological effects of teasing and bullying in the childs formative years. diagnosis is made by taking measurments of the head and treatment recomendations are based on those findings.12-18mm is classed as a severe deformity and bens measurments came out at 19.3. treatment for plagiocephaly is very straight forward-all ben has to do is wear a special 'made to measure' helmet called a starband 23 hours a day for 3-4 months, this will encourage bens head to grow into a normal shape-unfortunately this treatment is not funded by the NHS. Each childs treatment costs £2000.00.
