Story

On the 08 July 2017, myself and 8 friends and family will be undertaking the 3 Peaks 24-hour Challenge, in which we will attempt to complete the 3 highest mountains in Britain; Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales). The aim of our expedition is to raise as much money as possible for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity which provides unparalleled support for cancer patients on the Wirral and beyond.

In December 2016, my sister-in-law Louise, 34, was diagnosed with breast cancer. After initial consultations, it was found that the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, which in real terms means that the severity of the cancer was fierce. As she was so young, she was immediately booked in for a mastectomy. As you can imagine, the news for the whole family was absolutely devastating, more so given that with two young girls, Eva, aged 4 and Maggie, aged 2 were at that time looking forward to the widely anticipated Christmas festivities.

As a family, we began to cope with the news and put plans in to action to help and assist Louise, my brother Danny and the young kids in every way we could. On top of this we were also given the support of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity who lived our journey as everything unfolded.

In January 2017, Louise was booked in for her mastectomy, which again required further support. Literally, 24-7, a Clatterbridge Cancer Charity would be on hand to provide advice and support. At the end of February 2017, Louise started her chemotherapy. This has again put a lot of strain on the family as a whole, however Louise’s mum, Ann, has been literally by Louise’s side every day, whilst Clatterbridge Cancer Charity have again provided unbelievable support to the family.

So, what do we aim to achieve? First and foremost we want to give something back to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for their unrivalled support. Secondly, we want to ensure that the services provided by Clatterbridge Cancer Charity to continue to provide excellence in cancer support for years to come.

The National 3 Peaks Challenge we are undertaking is going to be completely self delivered, so we will not be employing a company to take us around the mountains ourselves. We will do this completely independently to ensure the money we raise goes straight to the charity.

I know this is a long read, but I just ask you all to please support this very important charity event that is close to all of our hearts!

Please donate, big or small, it all counts........
