Over the last 8-10 years I have taken part in a number of events to fundraise much needed money for charities, that have been important to myself or one of my lovely family and friends.

The biggest fundraising event I tackled many years ago, was a marathon and 8 years on I am in training for the Edinburgh Marathon. It’s going to be a challenge!!
As part of my training and fundraising I will also be taking part in the Bath Half Marathon and Cardiff’s first Trail Half Marathon.

On this occasion, my drive, dedication and determination to take part in these events and ultimately tackle the marathon, is to raise much needed funds for HEADFIRST, an appeal within Velindre Cancer Centre.

HEADFIRST aims to raise funds to increase awareness and raise the profile of brain and spinal cord tumours in Wales, as well as support brain tumour research projects, provide funding for educational support for health professionals and to fund equipment to improve the treatment of patients.

The aim and required fundraising of the appeal is so vital; the appeal website states that survival rates for adults with brain tumours has improved little in over 40 years. This needs to change.

My awareness of HEADFIRST has sadly been driven by the impact of a brain tumour on a family member. These miles are for him and his family.
