Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I’m Darren, I’m 33 years old from Bury St Edmunds, I am running the 2019 London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support, Its a charity that is very close to my heart! Unfortunately, Cancer has affected my Mum who had a very aggressive Bowel Cancer and whilst she is now in Remission, the amount and severity of the operations and treatments she had to endure have shown me that firstly my mum is the bravest and strongest person I know, and secondly it gave me a insight into the work that Macmillan Cancer Support do everyday for people in need.
This became clearer to me In January 2018 when I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma and subsequently treated with ABVD chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, this was obviously a very difficult time for me and my family and whilst I can’t thank my employers Morgan Sindall enough for their support during this time, The whole Macmillan team, from the specialist nurses to the volunteers were absolutely amazing, they offer advice in every aspect and when times are hard they let you see the end goal of what you’re fighting for and they selflessly helped me the same as they help thousands of people every day!
Thank fully I am now in remission from my Cancer and I very much hope it stays that way! Although it was tough, it has shown me a new appreciation for the work these people do everyday and how many lives they save physically and mentally, I am trying my best to raise awareness of this great cause but to also show my gratitude and give something back.
For those of you that know me, you will know that I am far from a “Runner” and this training is going to be gruelling for me but I am more determined than ever to complete the marathon, hit our target fundraising amount and also give Cancer the finger on the way by, it won’t even be a year after remission that I run the marathon so the task for my body and mind will be huge!
I honestly can’t thank everyone enough that looked after not only me but also my mum when she and I was ill but hopefully this will go some way to showing my appreciation!
I am hoping to reach a target of £2500 and any donations will be massively appreciated, I hope to keep you updated with how my training goes!
