Story
"A Stranger” is a song I wrote during a challenging experience in my life. It reflects on all of our personal difficulties, and how we cope and show great resilience to keep going.
In March 2016, I was diagnosed with blood cancer (myelofibrosis) and in September 2018 I received a stem cell transplant from an American donor, who was sourced through the Anthony Nolan Foundation. Despite the very best care provided by the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (Ward 4B) at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, my body rejected it three months later.
I was fortunate to have a subsequent transplant provided by my daughter Gillian, and I’m happy to share that it’s proving to be a success.
Life has changed so much and I’ve learned not to take anything for granted. I live for today and look forward to tomorrow.
In the final few weeks of my hospital stay, encouraged by my son Alasdair, I used my musical background to write a song. This cathartic experience is how the song ‘A Stranger’ was created.
Due to the after effects of my treatment I was unable to contribute to the recording process but my cousin, Drew Scott, kindly offered to record and produce the song which can be listened to online.
Drew’s popularity as a globally recognized TV host will ensure it reaches a greater audience.
As co-founder and executive producer of Scott Brothers Entertainment, Drew Scott has enjoyed huge success as co-host of several smash-hit TV series including Forever Home, and holds past achievements in the film and television industry as a producer, director and actor. He has a keen interest in music and is a talented vocalist/guitarist.
My partner Wendy and I are grateful for his support with which I hope the song will be enjoyed and raise awareness and funds for a very worthwhile cause.
