Story

Our amazing and dedicated team: Eliza, William, Emily, Roxanne, Emily, Lauren, Jemima, Clover, Beatrice, Daniel

From 3-legged races to roller-blading, each team member will be travelling half a marathon (21km or 13 miles) over the course of the summer to raise funds for the Children's Hospital in Oxford.

We have chosen this charity because one of the team members,  Clover aged 9, has spent 10 weeks in the last 18 months at the Children's Hospital in Oxford. Clover was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia. PCD sufferers have abnormality of cilia (microscopic hairs that beat within the airways removing secretions from the respiratory tract). The condition affects the nose, ears, sinuses, reproductive system and lungs. If left untreated, PCD can lead to lung disease called Bronchiectasis. Unfortunately as PCD is so rare (only 3,000 people in the UK have been diagnosed with it) Clover had a relatively late diagnosis and therefore does now have a small area of Bronchiectasis on her lung. She also wears a hearing aid as glue ear due to PCD has permanently damaged both her ear drums.

We hope the money raised will go towards equipment and games to help keep kids like Clover a little happier during their hospital visits. The charity raises funds that contribute to things like beds for parents to stay with their children during these extended visits, activities and games like Wii Sports to help make the extensive physio more fun for the kids, and to generally provide day to day support and comforts that bring a little normality into what can be a very traumatic time for families.
