Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Sunday 26th April 2020 aged 41 years and 11 months I will run my first ever marathon. It’ll be in London, surrounded by “proper” athletes, dedicated runners, fitness fanatics, fundraisers and many more, all with their own motivation for running such a long way in one go!

So why am I going to do it I hear you ask? Because of this organisation and the work that they do Cornwall Hospice Care, providing care and support when people need it most.

None of us know how our lives or the lives of our loved ones will end and I’d like to think that we will all have access to great facilities and specialist care when we all need it. But keeping these hospices up and running takes a huge amount of money every year and that’s why they need people like you and me to fundraise for them.

I am running in memory of my dear friend Ben Cray. Ben passed away on 5th February 2019 after suffering a long-term condition for many years. His last days were spent in the safety of Mount Edgecumbe Hospice in St Austell Cornwall. Although he wasn’t there for long, I know that to Ben and his family, being admitted to the hospice at the very
worst time imaginable, brought a lot of relief for them all, knowing that professional, skilled, experienced, compassionate people were there to support and guide them through the most difficult part of their journey.

The hospice has also provided much needed support in the weeks and months that followed Ben’s passing and the family were very grateful for this.

In March 2019, I felt compelled to apply for a marathon place with the charity, as I could  see the sadness and devastation that his passing had caused and wanted to turn such sadness into something positive. So here I am, cap in hand, hoping that people that I know will help to support me in my fundraising campaign leading me to 26th April 2020.

I am planning various events, including a Bingo event (23rd March 2020), a quiz night (31st January 2020) and a ceilidh (28th February 2020)I will advertise details of these on social media and everyone is very welcome to attend.

I am also looking for companies of any size to sponsor a mile of my route! So the hunt is on for 27 sponsors to pledge a minimum of £30 each to get my fundraising off to a flying start. In return, I ask for your company logo and I will be printing a huge supporters flag for my “family crew” to take to London on the day which will show all of
the companies who have helped me to raise the much-needed funds for this amazing charity.
If you are able to sponsor a mile please email ehall1@hotmail.co.uk and we can make arrangements for payment and to get your logo in print.

If you would also like to get involved or provide any support/offer raffle prizes etc for any of the other events, please email the address above.

Huge thanks for taking the time to read this and if nothing else please wish me luck for the next six months of training on the Camel Trail in whatever weather mother nature chooses to throw at me, and especially on Sunday 26th April.
