Story

On April 6th 2019 Gary, Elaine and Leanne will be taking on the challenge of doing a 16 day trek taking in the Gokyo Lakes up in the Himalayas and then onto Everest Base Camp at 5,380m (17,651ft) Much of the time we will be trekking and sleeping at altitude. We will be flying into Lukla (one of the world’s most dangerous airports!) from Kathmandu. It’s a 130km round trip from Lukla to Base camp but the 65km hike to Base Camp takes far longer as we have to factor
in acclimatisation. Bear in mind though that we are trekking to the Gokyo Lakes FIRST so the hike is going to take that much longer!! Our sleeping arrangements will be simple & basic. We have self-funded this trip in order to make sure that every pound raised goes to the charity.
It’s hard to believe that March 2019 will be the 9th Anniversary of when our dear Sarah passed away from having a brain tumour. Ever since then, her family and friends along with complete strangers have raised thousands of pounds in her memory for The Brain Tumour Charity through the Sarah Kitchener-Perrow Fund towards research into the treatment of and finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Sarah was someone always with a smile on her face from when she was born, throughout the toddler stage and into school age and beyond. Her love of life and cheerfulness touched every person she came into contact with. She was a beautiful young woman, a daughter to Philip & Nicky, sister to Peter and wife to Dave. Sarah is the reason why so many events and challenges are organised in order to raise as much money as possible to fight this life-shattering disease. Sarah was a person who would be the first up to sign on for any challenge and we are sure she would have loved to have joined us on this next challenge.
Please help us reach our target and together we can work towards finding a cure…

Gratefully yours Gary, Elaine and Leanne
