Yes, you read that right! On April 22nd 2018 I will be taking part in the legendary London Marathon in aid of Diabetes UK! 26.2 miles of iconic British landmarks await me on my unprecedented challenge. Eeeaaakk!!!
Since I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 16, I have been taking insulin injections and will have to do so for the rest of my life. So in 20 years, with nearly 4 injections everyday, we're looking at figure somewhere near 2000 injections! Ouch! Diabetes is a very much misunderstood condition which desperately needs to be highlighted in today's society. No, I didn't get it by eating too many sweets or by not getting enough exercise. I didn't choose this life, it chose me. Everyday is a struggle to keep my blood sugars under control, a struggle to basically stay alive. By taking on this challenge I hope to help spread the word about diabetes and help to fund treatments and research into finding a cure. One day future diabetes will be a thing if the past.
So I've a fundraising target of 1850.00 so expect some serious nagging! To help me on my way I'm also taking part in Cardiff Half Marathon in October this year. Please give what you can so that one day we will find a cure! No more blood testing, no more injections, no more hypos. Every little penny raised will make a difference! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support!
