Story

Hi,

As some of you will know, my parents, Susan and Nick Waters, passed away in March and April 2015. While dad's passing was unexpected, mum's wasn't as she had cancer. During her last few months the support we all received from East Cheshire Hospice was invaluable and they helped us so much, before and afterwards. I'd really like to give something back to them so they can continue their amazing work and carry on supporting other families, and also do something in honour and memory of mum and dad.

It got me thinking about what I could do and I toyed with the idea of a marathon or a sky dive or one off event like that but then I thought that it would be a lot more interesting if I did a challenge every month for the whole of 2017. I had a look around the internet but couldn't really find anything, so I made up my own - Lucy's 2017 Fitness Challenge. Here's what I'm doing:

January: Rivington Nightrunner, which is a 10K fell run
February: London Winter Run - another 10K
March: Wilmslow Half Marathon
April: Isle of Wight Challenge - this is a run/walk around the whole of the coastal path, which is 65 miles!
May: Nantwich Triathlon
June: Great North Swim - 1 mile open water
July: Three Peaks Challenge
August: Birchwood 10K
September: Tough Mudder
October: Chester Marathon
November: Commando Series - this is a 12K course with obstacles that are faced by the Royal Marines during their training
December: Tatton Park 10K (a nice one to finish off!)

I'm not going to lie, I'm very nervous about it all, especially the marathon and the Isle of Wight Challenge! I've only ever run one 10K race in my life and that was nearly 3 years ago but I'm going to train really hard as I'm determined to complete each and every one of my challenges and hopefully hit my target of £1000 for the Hospice. I know mum and dad would be proud of what I'm doing, maybe think I'm a little bit mental but proud nonetheless!

Anything you'd be willing to donate would be so gratefully received - this is a long challenge and will require a lot of hard work on my part!

Thanks for reading,

Lucy x
