Story

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As most of you are aware 2017 was a monumental year for me.  Getting through all that happened has been the hardest and most heart breaking journey of my life so far.  Yet it has made almost anything else seem possible.  So when my Marathon place came through the post back in October I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to challenge myself physically and mentally, and at the same time raise some much needed funds for such a worthwhile cause. That was after the initial shock of having been offered a place in the London Marathon!

I am doing this in the memory of my dear dad, who sadly passed away on roadside last February.  The crew from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance tried in vain to save him, it was not to be.  Our world is now a very different place.  I thank them from the bottom of my heart for doing all that was possible to make his last moments on this planet as comfortable as possible.

The KSS Air Ambulance do an amazing job,  not only do they save lives, but they improve the patients' quality of survival.  It costs £6.5 million each year to run a 24 hour Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Those of us that live within these counties are only ever under 30 minutes away from emergency care should we or our loved ones need it.  That is quite something, and my family and I know only too well it could happen to anyone at anytime.  They are not funded by the NHS and are funded almost entirely by voluntary donations.

I did think long and hard about taking on this challenge for a cause, as I was concerned that maybe I wouldn't be able to do it, potentially so much could go wrong, particularly as I am, or was, a complete novice at running.  This is partly why it has taken me so long to write this and set up my Justgiving  page; I would not want to let anyone down.

After completing my first ever half marathon last Sunday at Hampton Court it feels a little more possible now.  I have been and am very determined and motivated to achieve this massive goal and have been working so hard at it since October 2017.  Although I am taking on this challenge in my dad's memory, it is also for my mum,  my family, my friends and for this amazing charity.  It will also be a huge achievement for myself and I promise everyone I will give it everything I have got.

I have my place in the London Marathon whether or not I raise funds, but taking part in my dad's memory and knowing that I am able to support and help the amazing team at KSS Air Ambulance at the same time is for me, something very special.

I would greatly appreciate any donations that you are able to afford to help me help others and give to such a worthy cause.

Remember this service is available to every person living, working, and travelling through the region each day.
