Story
Our lives changed forever on Saturday 30th July 2016, the day our wee boy Euan was diagnosed with Leukaemia. He was 5 years old. He'd been like any other boy on the Friday, out on his bike, playing with his sister Abi. The very next day he was admitted to hospital in Glasgow, acutely ill, with intensive care on standby in case he deteriorated further. We had been catapulted into the unfamiliar and terrifying world of childhood cancer.
Nearly 2 years on, and Euan's doing well. He still has a way to go, he'll need daily chemotherapy at home for another 2 years, combined with monthly IV chemo and steroids, with a trip to the operating theatre for chemo into his spinal fluid every 3 months.
It's hard to put into words how well Euan has coped with everything he's had to endure over the past year and a half; 126 nights in hospital, various surgical procedures, 26 general anaesthetics (with more to come), countless blood transfusions, not to mention the things he's missed out on - birthday parties, school, swimming, the list goes on.
Daniel and I couldn't be more proud of him, and also of the way Abi has adapted, because her life has been turned upside down too. We're forever grateful to our friends and family who have helped us, we couldn't have got to this point without them.
So, we wanted to give something back to the hospital, for the outstanding care Euan continues to receive from the Schiehallion team. We'll never be able to repay them for looking after our wee boy, but this is a start.
Thanks to Claire and Jon for allowing us to rope them in too - I don't think the others will mind if I say that 3 out of 4 of us (myself most of all) are unlikely athletes, but we'll be using Euan as our inspiration to keep plodding on when the going gets tough. We'll share some sweaty photos on the day.
Please donate what you can to this cause that is so close to our hearts.
Thanks,
Daniel, Kirsty, Claire and Jon
