Story

I am trying to raise money for the charity Debra by doing three cycling challenges;

1. The Fred Whitton cycling challenge (on 13th May cycling 112 miles with 12000 ft of climb)

2. Everesting (on 23rd June in Stanhope cycling the height of Mount Everest 29029 ft, anyone wishing to come along and show support we will be setting up camp from The Grey Bull in Stanhope)

3. A 325 mile endurance ride from London to Paris over 3 days (with technical support from the charity Debra)

My son Mason was diagnosed with EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) when he was just 4 months old. EB is a hereditary skin condition where the skin blisters and tears at the tiniest of friction. Receiving this news about our gorgeous newborn baby was devastating and we didn't know what to expect. We were referred to Birmingham Children's Hospital where myself, Sam and Mason had blood tests to determine the severity of Mason's EB. When the results came back as Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa our world was shattered. Any knock could cause Mason's skin to tear, any rubbing on his skin could cause blisters, eating could blister his throat and affect his internal linings and rubbing his eyes could cause blisters and scarring. Horrific in any parents eyes to see your child suffering and in pain. He has good and bad days and my wife and I and Mason are all still learning how to cope and face new challenges every day. Mason is such a special little boy and leads a normal life as possible and always has a smile regardless. EB is such a rare condition affecting just 1 in 17000 people in the world that awareness isnt great and any research is very limited. Unfortunately at the moment there is no cure but studies are carried out when funding is available. I am therefore raising money for Debra to help in their effort to possibly find a cure and end this horrific condition and ultimately create life changing results for those affected.

Debra also help support those affected and their families, I am therefore doing these challenges to support Debra who support us.

Please donate what you can to help Debra continue the great work.
