I never attended any PE classes at school and hated anything sports-related. Last year I ran a London half marathon without any training and couldn't walk for the following 5 days. That wasn't a smart move but it showed me that I can challenge myself and push my body further only if I want to. Inspired by my previous boss, I've signed up to the 2017 London Marathon and never thought I'd made it in the ballot. So now I ended up training on Monday mornings with 25km, which has completely turned my life upside down - I'm training every second day, go to bed at 10pm and constantly moan on my muscles.

I'm not an athlete, I still suffer like crazy so my target time is = just to finish and survive these 42km. Maybe that's too ambitious for a newbie to go for a marathon, but so sounds the aim of Breast Cancer Now - the charity I am running for - to end breast cancer deaths by 2050.

Every 45 min, another woman dies from this disease. Thus, I am running - more trying to survive - to raise money to support +400 researchers to find ways to prevent, detect, treat and stop breast cancer. Join me here http://breastcancernow.org/get-involved.

It's a long journey for me, still with 4 weeks left of the training and a long journey for women's future. £25 could buy 100 pipette tips, but even two pints in the pub - £10 could buy 15 flasks for growing cancer cells - key for developing new treatments. With every 1km I feel I'm getting better prepared for the big day, just like with every penny you can help us fund the future of the research to stop breast cancer.
