I am really looking forward to my first project with Vision Aid Overseas in February 2018, where I will be joining a team of eye care professionals to train and support optometry students and university staff in Hawassa, Ethiopia.

For many of us, eye sight is a precious part of life and unfortunately in vast areas of Ethiopia, access to quality and affordable eye care services is scarce. Ethiopia has one of the lowest patient to optometrist ratios in the world, with fewer than three qualified optometrists per million.

Our mission is to build sustainable eye care services, which can be achieved by having skilled staff to do the work. With our training and mentoring, we will see graduates go on to provide local access to eye tests and glasses to 1.2 million people over the next 20 years.
