Story

My Story

I have always wanted to take part in a challenge abroad that involved my two favourite things; fitness and wildlife. Circumstances and life have got in the way in the past but not anymore. It feels as though all my life paths have reached this perfect point, fate has dealt me an opportunity I just couldn’t say no to.

Not only will this challenge involve some tough physical challenges and allow me to take part in some conservation work, but also to raise money for a charity that is dear to my heart. I started volunteering for Teignbridge and Totnes branch 2 years ago, so I know first hand what great work they do and how the money would be spent. Animal
welfare and education is an important part of our society and Cats Protection work tirelessly to make sure all cats and kittens have a voice and give them sanctuary if they need it.

There is a daunting task ahead of me; firstly raising the £4000 and then actually completing the challenge but sometimes you should step out of your comfort zone and do something which will stay with you forever. In years to come I want to look back and say ‘I did that’ not ‘I wish I had done that’

The Challenge

I will join Cats Protection in India on this exclusive fundraising challenge. My adventure starts in India’s capital Delhi before boarding the overnight train for the journey to the Lesser Himalaya where I will explore this spectacular area on foot during a 4-day trek. I will reach altitudes of up to 2842m and will walk approximately 14km per day, taking around 6-8 hours.

The Project

I will spend three days in the Kanha National Park. During my time here I will learn about the efforts being made to conserve the environment, especially for tigers. Taking drives into the National Park with the hope of spotting tigers and other endemic animals. I will also get hands on and support the conservation efforts directly such as assisting with the removal of weeds, planting trees and habitat maintenance all of which are important tasks to keep the endemic plants in the National Park safe from invasive plant species which could change the ecological balance.

Monies raised will go towards Teignbridge and Totnes Cats Protection work to help rehome unwanted and abandoned cats, inform the public about feline welfare and support our free neutering campaigns.
