Mind's Blue Light Programme - support for Emergency Services
On Sunday 28th April 2019 I will run the London Marathon in riot gear. This includes protective overalls, shield, baton, handcuffs, helmet and full body armour. This kit weighs approximately 30 kg (4.7 stone)
In September 2018 I ran the Swindon Half Marathon in 2:16 minutes whilst wearing the same riot gear. I will aim to finish London in under 5:00 hours.
Independent research shows that members of the emergency services are even more at risk of experiencing a mental health problem than the general population, but are less likely to seek support.
Mind is delivering the Blue Light Programme to provide mental health support for emergency services staff and volunteers from Ambulance, Fire, Police and Search & Rescue services across England and Wales.
Thousands of staff and volunteers across these services have actively challenged mental health stigma, learnt more about mental health and made positive changes in their approach to wellbeing with the support of the Blue Light Programme so far.
The Blue Light Programme provides help and support for those suffering from stress and anxiety, PTSD and mental wellbeing.
Emergency services save lives every day. Their mental health matters.
