Hello !
My name is Gabriella Ann Collings, born 12 August 2009 and I have been very poorly spending 6 months in Alder Hey Childrens Hospital.
Please read my story :
December 2009, I was just 4 months old when I suddenly became ill and within days I was diagnosed with a very serious heart condition called Complete Atrio Ventricular Septal Defect. This meant that my heart had 2 holes in it as well as one side only having 1 valve instead of 2.
On 22nd January 2010 I had open heart surgery and although I felt better for a little while, it wasn't to last as my heart started to fail and I became very poorly again.
On 23rd April 2010 I had my second open heart surgery and the surgeons thought that I might need a mechanical heart valve, but luckily for me, Dr Prem and Dr Nelson are very clever people and managed to repair my valve again. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
I am now settled at home with Mummy, Daddy and big brother Lucas, having lots of fun and growing bigger and stronger every day. Alder Hey look after me very well and I return every 4 months for heart scans.
The Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Childrens Hospital provided a safe place for my Mummy to stay for 6 months. This was totally free of charge funded purely by generous donations and costs the charity £ 25.00 per room per night.
It made Mummy very sad to be away from Daddy and Lucas but I needed her with me to help me get better. Mummy said having a room so close to the hospital was a God Send and we made life long friends, some with happy stories, others with sad stories, but all who have been helped by this invaluable charity.
We now want to help other families who may be facing similar experiences and will continue to fund raise for Mac House.
Thank you so much, your donations are greatly appreciated and I can honestly say they make a massive difference.
Special Thanks to all the staff on K2 ward where I became part of the furniture !
Intensive Care where I spent 4 weeks, to my cardiac consultants and of course to the surgeons and their team............
