My story

Hello,

The reason you haven't seen much of Samantha or I since early January is because we have been hard at work training for the London Marathon on 26th April 2009.

It will be my first marathon & Samantha's second. The training has been a real struggle and it's not getting any easier as the week's pass. I would like to say it is the cold weather that has been causing us grief but, evidently it is our age.

Those of you who know me may recall that a short while ago, my niece Lucy Richardson, who was just 2 years old at the time, was taken critically ill without warning and had to be airlifted to Kings College Hospital in London for an emergency liver transplant .

Seeing Lucy so desperately ill was undoubtedly the most traumatic experience I have ever witnessed both for a child so young as Lucy and for my immediate family. We were told on numerous occasions by the doctors that Lucy was unlikely to make it, thankfully she did and now Lucy lives a very full and wonderful life. To this day, Doctors are unable to pinpoint the cause of Lucy’s sudden illness hence the reason this charity is so important to us and every other family affected by Child Liver Disease.

Did you know that in the UK alone, two children each day are diagnosed with Liver Disease ?

I do appreciate times are hard in the current economic climate but if you could give as generously as possible it would be hugely appreciated.

Obviously if you are free on the 26^th of April 2009 it goes without saying that we would love to see and hear you cheer us along somewhere on the route.
