The Garenne Group has put together a team of people willing to take on the 24 Peak Challenge in the Lake District on 29 & 30 September 2012 . The purpose of this challenge is to raise money which will help support the Guernsey & Jersey Cheshire Home Charity.

 

The Cheshire Homes in each island provides care for people with serious physical disabilities in as close to a family atmosphere as possible. The charity provides support for adults living with disabilities such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, stroke and spinal injury and provides them with the right to live a life of their choosing.

 

Each person has their own specially-adapted and equipped room and even though they may each have very high dependency needs, the care they receive ensures that they enjoy as much independence as possible and maintain control of their own lives. The Cheshire Homes in both islands also offer a very important lifeline for disabled people who require day care or short stay care and provides a respite for those who care for them.

 

Both homes have a dedicated team of staff who provide exceptional care and provide a home from home for those islanders who need their support.

 

The Guernsey Cheshire Home requires more than £750,000 a year to provide the care it does and in Jersey, the cost of running the Cheshire Home is £1.5m. Neither charity receives any direct funding from the States of Guernsey or States of Jersey or from the Leonard Cheshire Disability in the UK and so rely on the generosity of islanders to raise the money needed each year.

 

Our target for this challenge is to raise £24,024, which we hope will make a small but significant contribution to the annual costs
