Story
I recently completed the cycle challenge known as the Pyrenean Raid. Since it was started in 1952, more people have climbed Everest that have completed the Raid, which covers 18 Pyrenean Cols with a total height gain of over 4 times the ascent of Everest. In summary my cycle:-
- started on Monday June 3 on the French Atlantic Coast. Finished on Friday June 7 on the Mediterranean coast (2 hours within the 100 hour time limit)
- covered 730km, 14,429 metres of height gain, one thunderstorm and seven wasp stings!
I undertook the challenge as an individual rather than part of an organised tour with Aileen providing vital "team car" support all week. Aileen also generously helped other cyclists along the way who were undertaking the Raid challenge ie ferrying a stranded cyclist down a mountain and driving a 100km detour to their support crew to alert them that others were still stranded at the top of the mountain due to mechanical issues.
Aileen works for Macmillan Cancer Support I have chosen to support them as I know they do fantastic work helping people affected by cancer.
