Rory's triathlon supports drama work with hearing and deaf young people in Gaza!!!
Rory Byrne is doing the beautiful Helvellyn Triathlon for which the Welsh landscape has provided the perfect cycle track, lake and mountain incline for this multi-skill event. A one mile swim in Ullswater, 38 miles cycle including the KIrkstone Pass and a 9 miles run up Helvellyn (3118 feet). The event happens on Sunday 1st September. Az Theatre (London) and Theatre for Everybody (Gaza) collaborated earlier this year on Gaza Opening Signs. First they trained Gazan theatre practitioners in signing for the deaf. Then they trained a mixed group of deaf and hearing young people in drama workshop facilitation and ran a three month programme of creative drama sessions for young deaf and hearing people at the Deir Al Balah Rehabilitation Centre in Gaza. This was accompanied by an exchange programme with young people at a London school. You can find out about this project by visiting Az Theatre's blog
Now we are able to extend this programme to work with an entirely new group of young people at the Jabalya Rehabilitation Centre in Gaza because of Rory Byrne's wonderful generosity and athletic prowess!!!
This follow up project is inspired by Rory's extraordinary offer to do a triathlon and get the sponsorship money dedicated to our project.
