The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

'LONDON TASHKENT 09'- team 'GEN-RALLEE'

No Money !  No Worries ! No Sense !

It's 2009 & call me mad but I'm shortly about to embark on another 'little' adventure.

It's been three years since braving the first, 'London to Tashkent 06' in a D reg Vauxhall Cavalier. This can't have been too hairy as I dared a second, Plymouth to Timbuktu, in an L reg Vauxhall Frontera 18 months later, which I also survived!

To undertake this new endeavour my team mate Ian & I will be driving, in typical Dukes of Hazzard fashion, the 'GENERAL LEE', a 1969 Dodge Charger in orange with '01' on the door!! Mmmmm, well apart from the fact our vehicle's green, (well that's what the log book says!), there's no Daisy (shame!), plus a few other not so minor differences. It's a sort of Dodge Mondeo Charger!

Thanks to www.bannerstudio.co.uk, '09' is emblazoned on both doors, with 'GEN-RALLEE' adorning the side in the style of the original.  Also, as we're hoping to cheer our boys on in the world cup qualifier in June in , (of course we're going to get that far!), there's a large  flag covering the roof.

The new route takes in Nurburgring, , , , , Kazakstan - Almaty - where Fabio Cappello will undoubtedly lead Lampard, Gerrard & Co to victory! The final destination will be Kyrgystan Bishkek where the car and any remaining contents (you can never tell what might disappear on route!) will be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to a local orphanage. The last event funded clothing and the purchase of an incubator for a baby unit. So, it's vital to make it all the way!!!

My choice of  charity is either the RNLI or Guide Dogs. Please don't pay me direct - simply go to www.justgiving.com/gen-ralleeguidedogs or www.justgiving.com/gen-ralleernli if you wish to make a donation to these exceptionally important causes.

If you are not keen on the charities I have chosen I am sure you will find another charity on the website that may mean more to you.

Lastly, if you are stuck for cash in the CREDIT crunch but have some free or very cheap 1.6 MK1 Mondeo bits in your shed, I am looking to take with me (instead of Daisy!) 2 steel wheels with tyres 185/65/ R14 with good tread, starter, alternator, ECU, a 2nd hand but very good battery, set of hoses, clutch and accelerator cable . Any other suggestions ?  If so please contact me on 07773521141 or e-mail adrian@betamarine.co.uk

I really hope that this has been of interest to you; if so, take a look at www.londontashkent.com or youtube, london tashkent 06 part 1 and 2  - its not my video but look out for the blue Cavalier (yes that old thing - you'll understand then why finishing that trip was such an achievement!!)

Of course, you can't take on a venture like this without the help of others so I would like to thank www.betamarine.co.uk , www.mono-studio.co.uk , www.bannerstudio.co.uk , mj.burgess@btconnect.com at Kington garage.

Thanks in anticipation of all your support.
