Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

You may already know that my son Steve has founded a charity LearnAsOne to bring education opportunities to some of the poorest parts of Africa. In May he spent 3 weeks in Zambia visiting local communities in desperate need of a school and identified the first project. I was so impressed by his hard work and dedication that I decided I needed to undertake a fundraising challenge and as someone who likes a spot of fresh air and exercise, came up with the Month of Madness "Running Plus" Challenge.

This involved me taking part in organised running events taking in all the standard distances from 5 km to Half Marathon within a month. And just to make it more interesting, throwing in a 55 mile bike ride and an 87 mile walk. That's a total of 7 events between 7 June and 4 July - 55 miles on two wheels and 125 miles on two feet!

At least that was the original plan, but on 7 June heavy overnight rain intervened and the Tour de Vale bike ride was postponed. I had to do it on my own anyway, as I couldn't fail at the first hurdle, so I've now done it twice, having just completed the re-arranged event on 12 July. I'm not planning to sit in a saddle for a long time!

Just for the record, as well as the cycling I managed to run the Maidenhead 5 km, Banbury 5 miles, Wargrave 10 km, Warminster Forest 10 miles and Birmingham & Black Country Half Marathon as well as walking the Ridgeway long-distance footpath route. And I had a lot of fun on the way (most of the time)!

My target sum will pay for the roof for a new classroom, desperately needed by a community in Simikakata, 7 km from Kalomo in rural Zambia.
