Ever since reading Bear Grylls’ book ‘Facing Up’, it has been my dream to climb to the summit of Mount Everest as well the highest point in each of the other 6 continents – a challenge known as the 7 Summits. To date I have climbed the highest mountain in North & South America, Africa, Europe and Antarctica
In 2010, having spent 7 weeks on the slopes of Mt. Everest, I got to within 120m of the summit of my dreams before turning around. I felt strong but time was at a premium having come to the assistance of 3 teammates.
I am going back to Everest in 2011, even more focused and even more prepared – for me it is unfinished business to say the very least. Over Christmas I climbed Vinson Massif in Antarctica leaving just Carstensz Pyramid in Papua New Guinea in March then Everest in April/May making it the final mountain in my 7 Summits quest.
I will be climbing for The RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution), which is an excellent cause that I have always supported. Last year they saved 333 people lives as well as rescuing almost 6000 more.
So please dig deep and donate now.
