My story

8/4/10. SEE THE PROGRESS UPDATES BELOW.

Hi. A few weeks ago in January, I was stuck by a touch of the winter lurgy that seems to have blighted most people this winter. By the time I had regained my breath after a few days, and was able to get up and about, I found that I had grown a respectable enough beard to sport, the first one I have had for many a long year.

The trouble is, someone else in my life didn’t know me all those years ago, and after a few days of sympathy and humour suddenly realised the beard wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry. And she is not happy. Truly, she no like. So after a lot of persuasion, and in a singularly weak moment, I promised that once the target of raising £500 for AAIR (Asthma, Allergy, and Inflamation Research *) had been reached, the beard would go!

Why AAIR? Although I have been an asthmatic all my life, I have been one of the lucky ones and my health has never been that seriously affected. There are, however, many more who suffer terribly and the problem is becoming far more widespread. Your support for research for alleviation from this debilitating, and for many, terrifying condition would be most appreciated – particularly by Sarah, who has the scissors poised and sharpened.....

With grateful thanks,

Robert Ellis

UPDATE 2  - 8/4/10. As per the pledge, the fuzz went once the £500 mark was passed. Now we have nearly £850, which is fantastic. What chance we can get this up to £1000?

UPDATE 1 - 16/3/10. The target has been reached, fantastic generosity from many peoples, thank you. The hope was, of course, that we could exceed this by some margin, so please don't be put off from adding to the sum at this stage. Meanwhile, confirmatory evidence of the resultant deed will appear shortly.
