Why your donation matters

There are more than 39,000 registered blind and visually impaired people living in London. For many of these, blindness brings isolation, vulnerability and lack of independence.

Just venturing outside can be a traumatic experience. Activities that improve our quality of life – sport, the arts, keeping fit – are often denied to them. Unemployment among the visually impaired is more than 70 per cent, even though many have useful skills they are willing and able to contribute to society.

We fund community organisations run by dedicated experts who work tirelessly to make a difference to people's lives. We look for those that have the most impact, and that would otherwise struggle to raise funds.

Donate now - your support will change lives for the better.

Case study: donations in action

“One day I decided I couldn’t cope any longer and contacted the GLFB’s Member Charity that was closest to me. They helped with my mobility which was a godsend and gave me a reason for waking up in the morning because they gave me confidence and hope.” Judith

"Cycling is a fantastic form of low impact exercise so why can't visually impaired people take part? Well of course we can if we have a pair of eyes on the front. Not only is it a good form of exercise but riding tandems is also a very social form of exercise." Roy

“The day I joined my local blind association my life immediately changed for the better. I go there several times a week and receive mobility training and practical advice. I also enjoy various activities and look forward to meeting the many good friends I have made there. My life wouldn’t be the same without the help and happiness that they have given me.” Irene
