My story

I decided in December to run 2012 miles in 2012 and raise a minimum of £2012 for a charity that recruits, trains and places sports coaches in clubs across the North East of England – The Tony Blair Sports Foundation (TBSF).  Thye helped and supported me through my Leadership in Running Fitness course - and since then I've definitely got the running bug.

Our local sports clubs need more trained coaches so that more children and young people across the North East get the chance to play more sport. However, there is a cost associated to becoming a qualified coach which many people cannot afford.  The TBSF is a local charity that recruits and trains sports coaches in athletics, basketball, cricket, cycling, football, rowing and tennis.  Every pound raised will be used to train more coaches and officials.

I was totally amazed after 4 weeks into my challenge when I received a phone call from Tony Blair himself, thanking me for my efforts and telling me that he himself with a member of staff from each of his 3 charities will join me in the challenge and cover another 2012 miles alongside me - how inspiring is that!

Follow my blog to track our journey of how we're going to clock up 4024 miles between us over the next 12 months at http://2012milesin2012graham.wordpress.com/

The Tony Blair Sports Foundation invests in local people, inspiring them to make the most of themselves through sport. By recruiting and training new volunteers the Foundation aims to increase the number of sports coaches and officials. Every £100 raised helps to pay for a new coach who will work in their local community to help more children and young people to play sport.
