Biarritz to Barcelona · 15 January 2008

Every year we support thousands of children and families right across the country. We provide rehabilitation to help children make the best recovery possible after a serious accident or illness, both at our national specialist centre in Tadworth and in the community.

Story

Dear all,

Firstly, thank you for visiting this fundraising page. Trust me, every little bit will help.

So what are you sponsoring me to do then?

A plan was hatched many months ago by a friend of mine, to raise money for the Children's Trust. The idea was to organise a bike ride from Biarritz on the Atlantic coast of France, to Barcelona on the coast of Spain. So formed the beginning of 'B2B'. The aim was to raise a combined total of £50k to build a new kitchen for the Children's Trust at their HQ in Tadworth. The challenge to cycle 450 miles in seven days from Biarritz, over the Pyrenees to Barcelona - some challenge!

To get a feel of the magnitude of the task, the London to Brighton bike ride is 50 miles and the dreaded Ditchling Beacon is 800 ft at its peak. The B2B is 9 times the distance and the highest peak; the Col du Tourmalet is 9,514, nearly 12 times the height.

If you would like to know more about B2B, please visit ourwebsite below

The picture on the left is of Octave Lapize taken in 1910, the first time that the Col de Tourmalet was added to the Tour de France.  When Lapize, who was some 15 minutes behind the leader, reached the pass of the Tourmalet in great pain and pushing his bike , he saw a group of race officials and yelled “Assassins". I fear I may be yelling some Anglo Saxon phrases of my own along the way.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Children's Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

Graham.
