Dear All,
Just a quick note to thank all those who generously donated money for our Round Norfolk Relay. It was a very different experience indeed and with your kindness we managed to raise £508.00 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Here’s a little resum
é of the weekend.
Our club start time was 07:30hrs Saturday morning and Kerry Mccoll took the baton on Stage 1, Kings Lynn to Hunstanton (16.32mls) clocking a time of 2hrs 18min, Netty Wasyliw took over at Stage 2, Hunstanton to Burnham Overy (14.06mls) and clocked a time of 1hr 59min. From Burnham Overy Sarah took over the role of TIMEKEEPER for the rest of the event whilst I ferried runner to start points and back to pick vehicles up most of Saturday afternoon and evening until about 01:30 Sunday morning when I crawled into the back of my van to get some shut eye before getting ready for my leg of the relay from about 05:30—depending how it goes over the legs, time can be gained or lost!! Sarah, as timekeeper did have everyone’s number though!!!
Stage 3, Burnham to Wells, Jackie Clarney ran the 5.76 mls in 52mins handing the baton to Jane Charlesworth who ran Stage 4 Wells—Cley (11.14mls) in 1hr 34min. Stage 5 Cley to Cromer came next, 10.81mls in 1hr 40min by Sylvia Strangeway and the baton was then handed to Joanna Gilroy for Stage 6, Cromer to Mundesley. Joanna ran the 7.90mls in 1hr 05min.
Now nearing 5pm Saturday Stage 7 saw Deb Daly run Mundesley—lessingham (9.24mls)in 1hr 14mins handing to Gary Fenwick to run Stage 8 Lessingham—Horsey (7.52mls) in 59mins. Stage 9, Horsey—Gt Yarmouth (11.30mls) was run by Adrian Dodds in 1hr 30mins and the baton was handed over on the seafront to Stage 10 runner Neil Coney to start the inland run for home! 20.06 mls Gt Yarmouth to Bungay in an amazing time of 2hs 14min. At Stage 11 I was able to ferry Neil back to Gt Yarmouth to pick his car up before heading across Norfolk to my start point at Stowbridge and get some sleep!! Sarah was still timekeeping from stage to stage! Ian Mair ran Stage 11, Bungay—Scole (14.60mls) in 1hr 55mins and passed the baton to Brian Fox for Stage 12 Scole—Thetford Brian stormed the 19.67mls in just over 2hrs, amazing since he did a marathon the weekend before! Stage 13, Thetford—Feltwell was run by Pete Fieldsend (13.25mls) and Stage 14 saw John Maplethorp run Feltwell—Wissington (8.8mls) in 1hr 08mins.
Its about 06:00 Sunday morning now and Stage 15 was Francis Ward running Wissington—Downham Mkt (7.20mls) in 57mins handing the baton to Andrew Reid, the youngest member who ran Stage 16 Downham Mkt—Stowbridge (5.49mls) in 36mins! Then its my turn! Stage 17 Stowbridge—Kings Lynn (11.73mls) ran in 1hr 26min . Sarah as timekeeper clocked me out and was there at the finish to clock me in. An incredible event and please, if you get chance to look at http://79.170.42.3/roundnorfolkrelay.com you’ll see all the stages maps pics and see what the 54 teams put themselves through!. Once again, thanks everso much for your Sponsorship, your donations make a big difference.
