Thanks for taking the time to visit the hike4hunger JustGiving page.
The hike4hunger initiative commemorates 16th October - UN "World Food Day" in the following way:
> a community-led initiative to raise awareness about our global food crisis
> a personal journey by foot to reach a destination on "World Food Day"
> an inspiration for sponsorship and financial contributions to grassroots charities
Hikes will be running simultaneously in Australia, the UK and Zimbabwe to raise awareness and funds to help alleviate the critical lack of access to food for vulnerable children and the elderly in Zimbabwe.
Please refer to the website http://hike4hunger.org for further information on the philosophy and goals of this initiative.
The hike4hunger in the UK comprises a 180 mile (285 km) walk over 8 days along the Thames path from the source in the Cotswolds to Greenwich in London.
We are aiming to raise £10,000 for the Zimbabwe Benefit Foundation (ZBF). One of ZBF's projects is the Helping Hands seed project, which is successfully tackling the problem of poverty and starvation by distributing specially formulated seed packs to over 300,000 Zimbabwean families to help them become self sufficient.
Participation in the hike4hunger is open to all, be it half a day or the entire hike. It is a great opportunity to stretch your legs, appreciate the beauty and history of the River Thames and reflect on those less fortunate. If you would like to join us on this journey, please email info@hike4hunger.org to request the itinerary.
