My father has been a wheelchair user since being in an accident while he was in the army in the 1960s. Over the years he has been assisted by both Stoke Mandeville Hospital's National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) and the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA). He had a recent extended stay at NSIC and in visiting him, Fiona and I met many other individuals who also call on SIA's services.
I have a confirmed entry for the Blenheim Triathlon in June 2009 and want to use the ensuing humour at my expense to raise cash to support the SIA's work on behalf of both my father and a good friend's father, John
Gillespie, who was a wheelchair user for 32 years and who recently
died.
I recognise that asking for money at this time is difficult but please donate whatever you can afford as every penny really does count. As you pay, think of my 750m Swim, 20km Bike, 5km Run - I know that you are now already smiling!
