Story

Hello one & all,

WE DID IT!!!
This is a picture of Corwen at the end of the world, Finisterra, 3 days walk west of Santiago de Compostella. Kate is not in the photo as there was not a soul there to take one of both of us!

We arrived in Santiago on Sunday 31st August, just in time for the Pilgrim Mass at 11am, followed by the Botafumeiro Show, presented by an incoherent bishop, 7 burly clergy and a singing nun! If you don't know what the Botafumeiro is, look it up in Google, and be assured, it's worth walking 2000 miles to see!

After a day of rest and shopping, we walked for 3 more long days to Finisterra, thought by the Ancients to be the Edge of the Earth where the sun is consumed each night by the endless waters of the primal ocean. There was once a temple to Apollo, the sun god, here, but there remains no trace of it on this remote rocky headland, but the sun still sets over the edge of the world.
We camped for the night before walking back to the town to catch the bus back to Santiago and start our journey home. We came back via Santander and arrived in Plymouth last Tuesday morning. We have spent the last few days at Kate's parent's house, sleeping lots, drinking real tea and beer, eating marmite on toast and planning our next pilgrimage to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim... Once again, thanks to all of you for such support and positive vibes! We especially want to thank Kate's family and Nick Foot at Oakfield for all their help. Kate and Corwen xxx ********************************************** Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor Kate Fletcher, Corwen Ap Broch and our handcart online as we walk the 1000 mile pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela with all donations raised going to Survival International. If you want to follow our progress you can visit our yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/handcartpilgrims/ or join by sending a blank email to: handcartpilgrims-subscribe@yahoogroups.com Then you will receive regular emails (or occasional emails if we can't find a computer!)giving you the latest news about our big adventure! Or simply watch this site, which will be regularly updated. Survival is the only international organisation supporting tribal peoples worldwide. It works for tribal peoples' rights in three complementary ways: education, advocacy and campaigns. Survival also offers tribal people themselves a platform to address the world. For more information check out their website: http://www.survival-international.org Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Survival International will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. A penny a mile would be fantastic but we and Survival International will be extremely appreciative of whatever you can afford. So please sponsor us now! Many thanks for your support. If you want to contact us, please email Corwen on piedpiperonstilts@yahoo.co.uk or Kate, bombardekate@yahoo.co.uk
