Hello and thank you for taking a wee peek at my fundraising page. I'm pleased and somewhat relieved to say that I successfully completed the Malta Half Marathon on 24 February 2008. I managed to make it round the 13.1 mile course without stopping/walking/hitching a lift from the very friendly local support, despite much temptation. Miles 9 - 10 were particularly difficult, when the reportedly downhill course took a very steep and unexpected incline which nearly made me weep with despair as I approached it. And I came close to giving up somewhere around 11 miles but fortunately with a little encouragement I found the energy to keep going and made it over the finish line in around 2 hours 25 mins. I'm somewhat sunburnt, my whole body aches, and my knees give way when attempting the simplist of actions such as standing up, but I'm absolutely elated at having finished and can't thank everyone enough for their support. I've been extremely grateful for all the generous donations I have received so far, and have already exceeded my target but just because the event is over doesn't mean the fundraising has to stop. The team of 19 runners taking have already raised a total of £12,500 for the Family Holiday Association from this event to help the charity with its work giving children and families experiencing difficult circumstances the chance to enjoy a break away - that's enough to help some 20 families this year. This webpage will be open until 24 September 2008 and all donations will be gratefully received. Remember, if you donate online and you are a UK taxpayer the Family Holiday Association will receive an extra 28% in tax at no extra cost to you.
Thank you so much for all your support and I hope to see you all at the starting line next year! Hannah The Family Holiday Association are a registered charity who help families in desperate circumstances, those dealing with disability, bereavement, poverty, mental health problems, inadequate housing or abuse, by providing them with the opportunity to take a short break away from the stresses of their everyday lives. These breaks are typically for a week in a caravan in a UK seaside town. Something so simple, which many of us would take for granted, can give families in need the chance to strengthen relationships, and provide the motivation needed to make positive changes to their lives.
