I am going to Bulgaria next Wednesday 23rd July as a volunteer to work in the Gorna Kosnitsa home for physically and mentally disabled children. I will be approximately 70km from Sofia (the capital). This is a charity which I have wanted to be a part of since day 1.

The campaign begun following the broadcasting of Kate Blewett’s harrowing film 'Bulgaria's Abandoned Children' that exposed the appalling neglect of 75 unwanted and disabled children in the state-run Mogilino Institute. This programme and the horrors at the orphanage have gone virtually unreported in the press and on national TV. Only by raising the publicity surrounding this modern day Holocaust can this be prevented in the future.

Bulgaria has the highest rate of institutionalized children in Europe and the neglect that thousands of these children are suffering is literally indescribable. The situation in Bulgaria is only now being brought to the attention of the public and this could be as big as the uncovering of the situation in Romanian orphanages in the early 90s.

This is real, it is happening right now and it can be stopped.
