We played in thick snow. Didn't make it the best spectacle.
The Unders won again, but this time less convincingly.
I think the bravery shown diving around in snow and mud deserves a few quid.
Open Arms Malawi - A little bit about what they do.
They prefer not to refer to themselves as an orphanage, but rather a place of shelter, a "Transition Home".
Open Arms takes care of children whose mothers die of HIV at childbirth, when the remaining relatives are unable to cope financially with a new baby. They encourage relatives to visit and prepare them for the childs eventual return to their home village. Open Arms then runs an Outreach Programme to visit these children regularly and monitor their progress.
For those children who have nowhere to go, they are cared for from the age of 2 - 5 at Harrogate House and provided with in house nursery education. The children still there at aged 5 then move to phase 3 houses and join one of the 3 foster homes: Rose's House, Richmond House and Sekwe House, where they live with foster parents.
In October 08 open Arms opened a second main home 120km north of their main site in Mangochi and this new facility already cares for 40 infants. Plans are afoot to build accommodation to house volunteers at this new site.
So by donating to Open Arms you are directly supporting over 100 orphaned children at any one time, to whom Open Arms are providing a chance to not only survive but to flourish.
