It’s hard to express how amazing the school is and what a difference it can make to these children’s lives and those of their families. It’s very unique and combines the nursery with therapies to provide an individual support program for each child to help them with all of their needs: so speech, mobility and motor skills, behavioural/social difficulties etc.
Without an ability to communicate at an early age in life, these kids will struggle their whole lives – not just with speech but with their social communications, education, confidence and happiness.
The lack of therapies and funding on the NHS is beyond depressing. Without a school like this and funding being in place for kids who can’t afford it, then many of these children just won’t get the help they need to talk and be able to communicate properly. I feel exceptionally lucky for our child that he is able to go there. It’s difficult to describe the kind of relief and confidence that it gives you – knowing that he’s in a place that is completely able to help and understands exactly what they’re doing.
I am very lucky we can get our boy the help he needs, but it’s very expensive and it would be wonderful for the school to offer to families who can’t afford it. The school offers a sponsorship fund and over 1/3 of the children who now attend are supported by this. It would be amazing if they can open up this opportunity for families even further.
Please try to help – I’ve really seen first hand over the past year how desperately there is a need for this school and what a lifeline it provides for these children.
