ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC

Story

On the 20th September 2009 I will be running the Berlin Marathon on behalf of ChildLine, have pledged to raise £1000 and need your help!!

I am running with my work colleague, Wayne Firth from Bradford (www.justgiving.com/bd1) and he has had the down right cheek to say that he and the people of Bradford will not only reach the £1000 target first but will also raise more money in total, than me and the good people of Huddersfield.

SO COME ON 'UDDERS!! the gauntlet has been thrown down. They might have had Kiki Dee and Smokey but we've had Harold Wilson, James Mason, Patrick Stewart, Roy Castle and erm....a few more..probably!!

Help me beat this Bradford lot and show em who are the real winners, and I'll shown him my dust in Berlin!

But that aside the real winners will be ChildLine, and here's why my and Wayne are doing it

Every day around 4,500 children call ChildLine, but lack of funds means that only 2,500 of them will get through to our counsellors for comfort, advice and protection.

What your money can achieve......................

£4 answers a call to ChildLine

£42 means a child can receive full counselling from a ChildLine volunteer

£1,600 could be used to recruit and train a ChildLine volunteer counsellor. Among other factors the more counsellors we can recruit, the more calls we can answer.

£3,476 could pay for all the costs associated with all the work a ChildLine counsellor will do during a year.

Please make a donation, even if it's only a couple of quid, it's halfway to answering one more call closer to 100%

Ian

I did it!!

I completed the Berlin Marathon in 4 hrs 49 mins, knocking a massive 5 mins of my London time.

But is my fundraising going to be better than London?

Not looking too good at the moment.

I know there is a credit crunch and money is tight but just a couple of pounds WILL make a difference so PLEASE help a make a safe and secure donation.

Thank you,

Ian
