The Schools are registered as a charity and in 2001 a Development Office was established to encourage philanthropic support and to provide funds for means tested bursaries and capital projects. We rely upon the generosity of the whole school community alumni, parents, staff and friends to help future students.

My story

I will be swimming the English Channel in September 2008 to raise funds for three charities. Firstly a donation will be made to Leukaemia Research in memory of my grandfather and friend who both died of the disease. Secondly I will support the School’s World Challenge expedition to China where my classmates and I will work to improve the living conditions of orphans. Thirdly I intend to raise money toward my School’s Sixth Form Centre Appeal.

At Bury Grammar School, I have developed a real love for sport and was thrilled to represent my school in the National English Schools’ Swimming Competition. For my Channel swim, I plan to attract business sponsorship and will be seeking individual sponsors and donations. Every stroke I take will be for the three things I care about most.
